Tuesday 17th Jan: Refreshers Fair. We have a stall in Level 1 of the Students Union between 10-4pm, if you can help out at all that would be much appreciated!
Wednesday 18th Jan: All member meeting. Taking place in HU1.82 (Hugh Aston) at 5.15pm.
Thursday 19th Jan: “Drop the Bill” campaign comes to Leicester. Shadow Health Secretary, Andy Burnham MP, is holding a Drop The Bill rally in Leicester in protest at David Cameron’s reorganisation of the NHS. Location is not confirmed yet, but we will be meeting on campus and going down to the event together. It would be great if you could join us. To register to attend please email vicky_street@labour.org.uk. Places are limited so please register by 12pm Wednesday 18 January. We will send another email out before Thursday!
Friday 20th Jan: Jon Ashworth MP: Roving Surgery at DMU. Our local MP will be on campus in the Social Space (Level 1 of the Students Union) between 12-1pm. He’ll be there both to chat to students and also to listen to any local or national issues they may wish to discuss. The event is informal and you can come along any time in the hour. Please spread the word about this event, and come down if you can make it!

Friday 21st October 2011 – Post Freshers Social: A chance for new DMU and Leicester University Labour members to get together and meet with existing activists and Leicester’s local MPs. Tuesday 1st November 2011 – DMU Labour meets Rt Hon Jacqui Smith: We are delighted to host the former Home Secretary and Labour MP, Jacqui Smith, for a Question and Answer session to kick off our 2011/12 calendar of events. April 2011
28th April: The former Labour Leader, Neil Kinnock, visited Leicester in a campaign rally. Many Labour Students got the chance to chat to him, and listen to him give an inspirational speech.
19th April: The Labour Leader, Ed Miliband, paid a visit to De Montfort University to hold a Q&A with students and members of the public.
6th April: The Shadow Chancellor, Ed Balls, paid a visit to DMU to hold an outdoor Q&A session with students. He stood on the site that Nick Clegg occupied a year earlier and talked about his campaign for free tuition fees. Ed Balls highlighted these broken promises, on what he called “the site of the Great Betrayal”. The event was attended by over 200 people.
March 2011
25th March: ‘Fresh Ideas’ in Nottingham. Some of our members took the short trip to Nottingham to engage in a Question and Answer session with Labour Leader Ed Miliband and his Shadow Cabinet.
20th March: Labour’s newly elected candidate for Leicester South, Jon Ashworth, came down to DMU for a chat with students about issues affecting them, and what he would do if he were elected an MP.
